Stop Motion Animation

Stop motion animation is something I have been interested in since I was a child sitting in front of the TV after school with my jam sandwich watching Morph on Take Hart. Later into my teenage years I started no notice the stop motion scenes in classics like Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans and The Gate.

My real passion exploded when the Creature Comforts and Wallace and Gromit came out. I loved the animation style of Nick Park just as much as his writing skills and after a few years and moving around a little I decided  to start having a go myself.

In 2011 we were living in Eastbourne when I had my first go at making a clay character to be included in an animated film I have been writing and am planning to make in the future. The end result was “Ken” who still stands proudly next to my computer at home.

In 2012 we moved to a smaller property in Tunbridge Wells but I managed to grab myself a corner of the living room to set up a small area to carry on with the model making and start to experiment with filming and effects including Green Screen.

I decided to have a go at doing my own creature comfort type short animated film called Dorothea on the Beach about a therapist that has her own breakdown on the way to work and ends up on Brighton beach.

Due to my work space being to small I was unable to undertake the filming of the final draft of the film but learnt a lot from experimenting with different lighting, cameras, green screen and model making techniques.

We moved again in 2015 to a much large property in the center of Canterbury but due to work commitments and the birth of our first Daughter at the end of 2016 I found it hard to find the time to commit to such a large project like Dorothea but with another move planned (our last for a good few years) in the near future I intend to set up a larger space and finally complete Dorothea on the Beach.
